Shangri-La - Next League Round at Golfing Around
Indoor Golfing Adventures at Golfing Around: Taking on the Shangri-La Course
There are just a couple of rounds left in the summer golf league as it wraps up and the winter league starts November 15.
We are back with another thrilling round update from Golfing Around's indoor golf league. For those who've been following, you know we've been using the state-of-the-art Trackman simulators right here in Peterborough. And this time, our virtual journey took us to the Shangri-La golf course in Oklahoma City. The round runs from October 29 until November 12.
A Trip Down Memory Lane
Before diving into the round details, let's take a moment to appreciate the history and grandeur of the Shangri-La course. Re-opened on May 16th, 2013, following a three-year meticulous renovation, what began as a simple facelift transformed into a complete overhaul of the entire facility. The Old Blue Course at Shangri-La emerged with dramatic changes, with the Heritage Nine now played as its front nine. Tom Clark's genius has reshaped the Old Blue, turning it into a modern classic we all adore.
Navigating the Heritage Nine
Starting with the #1 Heritage, it's not your typical warm-up hole. Trees to your left, a menacing pond, and a bunker on the right - even setting your ball on the fairway feels like a mini-victory. For those willing to challenge the pond, you're rewarded with just a short shot into the uphill approach. But heed this advice: judge the dramatic elevation changes from tee to green. With the green split into three distinct sections, getting your ball to land on the right level is crucial. And if you do miss the green, avoid a short approach as the large collection area surrounding it can be tricky.
The Champions Nine: A Blend of Beauty and Challenge
As we transitioned to the Champions Nine, the course presented a delightful mix of challenges. With its Par 36 Championship layout, golfers faced water hazards, bunkers, and undulating fairways that tested their mettle. The picturesque views of the lake, combined with vast white sand bunkers, made every shot worth it, even if just for the view.
The first hole on the Champions Nine is deceptive. While it seems like a smooth start, one wrong move can heavily penalize you. The large fairway bunker and the imposing trees on the left make it a strategic hole. And while the pond near the green might tempt some, it's a gamble that requires high confidence. Even if you choose to lay up, ensuring your ball rests on the correct side of the hole is vital to avoid that dreaded three-putt.
From October 29th to November 12th, our indoor golf league players will navigate the intricate challenges and enjoyed the virtual beauty of the Shangri-La golf course. Every swing, putt, and decision matters, making it a memorable round for all.
Stay tuned for more updates from Golfing Around's indoor golf league.
Until then, keep swinging and enjoying the game we all love!
